The Building Blocks of Yoga

Build your yoga practice from the ground up! Start with the foundations of yoga and learn an entire flow sequence over the course of four weeks while taking time to break down pose alignment, sensations, benefits, modifications and common cues. Perfect for new students looking for a primer before jumping into a full class, great for yogis interested in refining their practice. Each class will open with intention setting and close with a relaxation.

Each week will build on the week before but sessions can be taken on a drop-in basis to focus on a particular category of poses.

  • Sun Salutations A & B

Learn, practice, and refine the poses and transitions that make up Sun Salutation A & B - including High to Low Plank (Chaturanga), Cobra & Upward and Downward Facing Dog.

  • Standing Poses

Building on a strong foundation of sun salutations, find your footing in poses such as Warrior 2, Crescent twist, Triangle and more!

  • Balancing Act

Following a series of postures to warm up and strengthen - develop ease and grace in balance through focus. Training the mind to find calm through turbulence both on and off the mat.

  • Let's FLOW!

Bringing newfound wisdom to your practice, incorporating all learned postures into a vinyasa flow sequence with attention on alignment and breath. Laying a foundation for an enjoyable and enriching continued yoga journey.

Love a flow practice? Ever wonder why? What’s its secret to helping us feel so alive and blissful?

This workshop will pinpoint the value of vinyasa (flow). We’ll start with a short lecture on the anatomy of breath, why breath matters so much in yoga, and where vinyasa fits on the 8 limbed path. Michelle will then lead us in a rhythmic, invigorating flow practice using beat to help us really synchronize the movements of body and breath. With breath activated and mind quiet, we’ll end in meditation where we can truly witness the powerful benefits of a healthy body, open breath, and a quiet mind.

This workshop will appeal to anyone who wants a deeper understanding of their yoga practice. Experience with sun salutations is recommended.

Kids Yoga Tricks (& Treats!)

Bring your little goblins to learn some tricks and have a treat at a YLB Halloween themed Kids Yoga class! The kids will learn some Halloween inspired poses (black cat pose, spooky tree pose...etc), make a spooktacular craft, and hopefully make some new friends in the process! Class will end with two treats ... Savasana (best treat of all) and goodies (second best)!

Parents are welcome to attend the Power class in the main studio at the same time or drop-off/pick-up. Costumes are strongly encouraged. This "Playshop" open to trick or treaters ages 4-8.

Pregnancy is a time of immense physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual change. Practicing yoga can help ease the discomforts of pregnancy and prepare the body and mind for childbirth and motherhood.
 
During this interactive informational workshop, Jennifer Fries, Certified Prenatal Yoga teacher and Birth Doula, will lead you through a yoga sequence designed to nurture your growing baby and changing body. As you flow, discussion will focus on how to safely modify your yoga practice, whether at home or in the studio, throughout your pregnancy.

Designed for women at any stage of pregnancy, those trying to conceive, and their partners.

Know any awesome kids that need a place to work on their superhero skills? Bring them to Yoga Lounge for an action packed yoga class and superhero training to strengthen our bodies. Summer Dance Series

Explore the world of dance with YLB's own Jen Lehaney, faculty at the University of Akron School of Dance. No experience is necessary; just bring your open mind, learn how to move your body, and get in great shape at the same time!

Each week we'll focus on a different dance style. Drop in to those you're interested in, or sign up for the whole series for a discount!

June 13 & 15: Ballet - Take a basic ballet class! Learn fluidity and soft movement. Bare feet, sox, or ballet slippers recommended.

June 20 & 22: Jazz - Speed things up a bit with some basic jazz technique, dancing to Broadway and current pop music. Bare feet, sox, or ballet or jazz shoes recommended.

June 27 & 29: Hip-Hop: Get funky! We'll explore basic hip-hop movement and style. Hip-Hop or athletic shoes recommended (please no shoes worn outdoors).

Suggested attire is anything you can move in.

The secret to yoga is not obsessing over whether your feet are parallel or whether you can bend as far as the person on your left can, but about transcending the serious and allowing joy into your life, your body, your mind, and hopefully your yoga practice itself. It's about lightening up.

Based on the book Happy Yoga: 7 Reasons Why There's Nothing to Worry About by Steve Ross, this program is a daily combination of reading, asana practice, meditation, healthy nourishment, and personal reflection.

Each week, we'll examine one of our seven greatest human fears - depression, ill health, loss of love, career failure, war, death, and emotional instability - and explore how to strip away these worries to reach your core of calm, radiant joy.

Includes:

  • A copy of the book Happy Yoga: 7 Reasons Why There's Nothing to Worry About by Steve Ross
  • 8 weekly group meetings on Wednesdays 6:45-7:45pm
  • Unlimited Yoga & Barre during the program
  • Daily emails with journaling prompts and support materials
  • Weekly audio classes available to download for home practice

How it Works

  • Practice: Commit to practicing yoga 5 times each week at the studio and 1 home practice.

With spring skies bring yogi kid butterflies!
Bring your little ones (ages 4-8) to Yoga Lounge & Barre for a kids-only yoga event where they will learn about the butterfly life cycle and transform into butterflies themselves! We will start as caterpillars, create a chrysalis then spread our newly created wings as a butterfly and learn to fly! The workshop will incorporate favorite yoga poses, using our imaginations, decorating our own set of butterfly wings, and learning more about the amazing metamorphosis of our friend, the butterfly.

Cracking Open: An Exploration of Breath through Hamstring, Hip, & Heart Opening

Explore traditional pranayama techniques to tune up your flow! Use the breath to slowly sink into more advanced postures and transitions like splits, dragonfly, and wheel. Begin by learning fundamental alignment principles for unfolding your flexibility in any pose, and then apply that knowledge in a heated vinyasa flow. With the body integrated and unfolded, class will end with a seated pranayama meditation.

Although this workshop will explore intermediate and advanced postures and arm balances, modifications will be given for those looking to take steps towards deepening their practice. Come play!

Yoga for Trauma & Recovery

This workshop is designed for anyone interested in enhancing their coping abilities and growing in their personal recovery. No previous yoga experience required.

We will begin with a gentle yoga class focusing on building coping strategies, followed by a 60 minute interactive discussion on trauma and the implications of unresolved trauma on wellness. Finally, we will go deeper in our yoga practice in a spirit of support and safety to begin releasing those blocks that are holding us back from the fullness of living.

About the teachers:

Jamie Marich, Ph.D., LPCC-S, LICDC-CS, is a nationally known expert in the study of trauma and addiction, and author of “Trauma and the Twelve Steps”. Dr. Marich travels the country giving trainings and retreats. A trauma survivor and recovering addict, she is known for her candidness in weaving her own life story into her professional work.

Mandy Hinkle, RYT-200 completed her training at the internationally accredited Yogaworks Teacher Training Institute in Los Angeles. There she developed an outreach program to assist current sex workers battling drug addiction on Skid Row. Mandy is also a trauma survivor and recovering addict.
